Pastors Letter

Dear Friends:

On behalf of our Saint Charles Parish Staff and our entire faith community, please know of our prayers for you and your loved ones during this difficult time of loss. When a member of our Saint Charles family dies, our priests and parish staff want to do all that we can to help with the process of planning the funeral. Listed below are a few reminders to aid you in this process.

It is helpful to make an initial phone call to the Parish Office to inform us of the death. During regular office hours our staff and priests can be reached by calling the main office number, 409-722-3413. If the call is made after office hours or when the office is closed due to holidays, etc., one of our priests can be reached by calling our answering service at 409-722-3413 and press 1.

It is extremely important that the day and time of a funeral not be chosen until speaking with someone in our Parish Office. We want to ensure the availability of the following: the church itself, the priest, and a music minister.

When you have selected a funeral home, it is best that a representative from the funeral home call our Parish Office while you are meeting with them. Again, the day and time of a funeral cannot be finalized until someone from the funeral home has spoken with our Parish Office staff.

At some point after having completed this packet, one of our priests or someone from our office will contact you to schedule an opportunity for a visit. The purpose of this visit is, first, to review all of the details and logistics related to the funeral itself, and, second, to assist our priest in preparation of the homily.

Lastly, regarding music, the cost for the singer and musician will be covered through the funeral home.

Again, please know of our prayers for you and your family, and let us know what we can do to help you through the process of planning and celebrating your loved one’s life.

Sincerely,

Fr. John Hughes

Initial Steps for Planning a Funeral

Listed below are the first steps in planning a funeral.
  • Please contact the parish office prior to setting the date and time of a funeral.
  • The parish office will then offer to setup a time for our priest and/or staff member to meet with you.
  • You are invited to select the scripture readings by completing the online form below (1 from the Old Testament, 1 from the New Testament, and 1 Responsorial Psalm, if the Psalm will not be sung, and a Gospel reading) .
  • You are also invited to select music for the funeral.  It is also covered by completing the online form below. Our funeral Music Director is Denise Broussard.  She can be contacted through the parish office and is more than ready and willing to assist you in making this celebration personal and memorable.
  • Lastly, again, it is very important to speak with a representative from the parish office prior to selecting the date and time of a funeral.  This is simply because we would need to make sure that both the church and priest are available and that there is not another function already scheduled in the church.
St. Charles Parish Office: 409-722-3413
